White is For Witching: A Postcolonial Gothic

چکیده

In White is for Witching (2009), Helen Oyeyemi defamiliarizes traditional narratives, subverts the classical doctrines and inserts recent issues. Although her novels are mostly read within scope of gothic literature, she introduces ethnic mythology folklore that provide myriad perspectives. As well as incorporating features, draws from cultural motifs Nigerian roots to highlight recurring patterns immigration, coexistence, integration in English history. Using vocabulary pattern narration, novel constructs a postcolonial story question xenophobic tendencies nation legacy colonial era endures today through immigration policies. Therefore, this article, I criticising concerns pure white Englishness against racial others immigrants labelled invaders identity elements gothic.
